Burlington

The Burlington Story

Welcome to Burlington Hearth & Brewery where we work daily toward the apex of artisanal flatbread and handcrafted beer.  Join us and celebrate Burlington’s local community ‘third place’, 7 days a week.

Our story begins when partners, Paul Sayler and Rob Downey, began dreaming and planning for a pizza and beer restaurant shortly after they met in 1995. They then began the process of renovating what was the old Burlington landmark, Carbur’s, to open what would become American Flatbread Burlington Hearth. Their dream was to open American Flatbread restaurants in local communities and to use this venue to bring back the “third place” and the values that this represents. American Flatbread Burlington Hearth is a unique place that has been established and sustained by our local community. It is a place to “share our food.” Our goal since we opened in 2004, is to provide a superior experience consisting of clean, wholesome food grown by local farmers, and made by artisans that care about the food they create. We take the time to do this because we believe that “Food Remembers,” and “Good Food Helps.”

AFB House Beer

All beers are made in house and are available to drink on site, most are available to take away in a growler.
Below is a list of our current offerings.

Americana (American Pilsner) 4.8% – This pre-Prohibition style lager was brewed with Pilsner malt, rice and Saaz hops. Close to what pilsners in America tasted like before WW1, this is more robust in flavor and stronger than modern macro options. This style was lost after Prohibition, but was revived by homebrewers in the 1990s.

Ahoy! (Czech Amber Lager) 4.5%A Polotmavé Speciální Pivo showcasing Moravian floor-malted barley and Kazbek hops. Served from our Lukr side-pull faucet.

Pacific Cooler (New Zealand-style Pilsner) 5.0% – Southern Hemisphere hops like Motueka & Pacific Sunrise give this beer a light lemon and clementine quality that is perfectly balanced by English malt and wheat.

When in Milan (Italian-Style Pilsner) 4.8% – A Golden lager brewed with Italian barley grown close to the Adriatic Sea. Noble dry-hops offer hints of Earth, fresh cut flowers and herbs. “Cin Cin!”

Nicöle (Kölsch) 5.0% Unfiltered and light bodied. Pale like a pilsner yet fruity like an ale. A perfect choice from aperitif through digestif. A beer everyone can enjoy.

Dortmunder Export (German Golden Lager) 5.4% – Inspired by the lagers produced in the Dortmund industrial region, our version of Dortmunder was brewed with Pilsner and Munich malts, Hallertau Mittelfruh & Tettnang hops and fermented with German lager yeast. Refreshingly balanced noble hop characteristics with Helles like maltiness.

Swan Song (Saison) 5.6% – This traditional Saison was brewed with unmalted wheat, spelt, honey malt and spiced with pink & green peppercorns.

Rumspringa (Rum Barrel-aged Pale Ale) 6.0% Not your usual pale ale. Aged in rum barrels and brewed with HBC 472, Loral & Talus hops. The hop flavors dovetail with the rum barrel, creating an easy, tropical vibe.

Astral Spirits (India Pale Ale) 6.4% Brewed with a yeast strain known for stone fruit and grapefruit esthers. Hopped with Idaho 7, Cascade & Talus, this beer is big on tangerine and pineapple flavors.

Path of Totality (Black IPA) 7.3% – This Cascadian Dark Ale was hopped with Strata, Crystal, Cascade, Simcoe, and Amarillo, so it definitely lands on the dank side of the moon. A west coast bitterness level ensures everything under the sun is in tune.

Benefit Bakes

Being a good neighbor is part of American Flatbread’s mission.  We wouldn’t be here today without the strength and support of our community. As a way of giving back, we host weekly Benefit Bakes where we donate a portion of every flatbread sold to an organization working to improve our community.  These evenings are dedicated not only to raising funds but to raising awareness around community issues and individuals.
