American Flatbread – Flatbread Kitchen
Friday and Saturday January 11+12,2008
Tonight’s menu and baking are dedicated to
Magic Words
I started a particular project today:
to hand write a thousand thank- you notes
to be slipped at random into our frozen boxes,
Boxes that go to distant places
And to people almost wholly unknown.
Each one is different, though they start the same:
Today’s date
The time
The temperature
And the weather.
I wrote about the joy of playing with my kids, carrying water to my cabin,
Food (of course), and business.
Here’s one of my favorites:
“When I was little my mother would say that please and thank you were magic words, and in all these years I have found that to be true.
Thanks for buying this Flatbread.
George”
I don’t know who will get them or whether they’ll mean anything to anyone, but I have already learned that it has meant something to me, and that is enough.
Thanks for coming tonight,
Love.
George
